Reducing Stress

Stress is one of the biggest causes of health problems in many of our  lives: it can cause heart disease, depression, anxiety, insomnia, physical pain, weight problems, and more.  Your doctor, family and friends repeatedly tell you, you should reduce your stress.   How can you reduce your stress while working, taking care of your home, family and children, plus taking care of you self?   Taking a vacation or mini-vacation to de-stress can be stressful too – planning, packing, and traveling.

What are the some things that you can do to help alleviate your daily stress??

  • Walking:   When you are feeling stressed, take short walk outdoors (5 minutes).  It will clear your mind. After eating lunch, take a 10-15 minute walk, it will not only help you de-stress, it will aid with digestion too.
  • Single task:   Focus on a single task and complete it before moving on to the next task.  Multi-tasking can cause stress in itself because one or more task does not get completed.  You will always have a never ending list of task to do.  So focus on one task and complete the task.  Completing the task will also give you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
  • Acceptance:   Accept that there will be people life that will upset you. Some people at work will not meet your work standards.  Your neighbor may not mow his lawn as often as you think he should.  You child is not keeping his/her room as clean as you would like.  Recognized and accept that you and they are imperfect.  You and they are doing the best they can.
